RESTASIS® Ophthalmic Emulsion helps increase your eyes’ natural ability to produce tears, which may be reduced by inflammation due to Chronic Dry Eye. RESTASIS® did not increase tear production in patients using topical steroid drops or tear duct plugs.
Chronic Dry Eye is a chronic condition, and you will need to maintain therapy on an ongoing basis. Within 1 month of therapy, your eyes should start producing more of their own tears, but it could take 3 to 6 months after beginning therapy to see an increase in tear production.
You may want to continue to use artificial tears, such as REFRESH® Brand or REFRESH® OPTIVE™ Lubricant Eye Drops, in conjunction with RESTASIS® Ophthalmic Emulsion. Your use of artificial tears may decrease as you begin to produce more of your own tears.
Patients should use RESTASIS® Ophthalmic Emulsion twice a day, 12 hours apart, every day. One vial should be used every morning and another vial should be used every night. That’s why it is important that you get a full 30-day supply (2 trays—60 vials total) from your pharmacist.
RESTASIS® is packaged in convenient single-use droppers. A 30-day supply is 2 trays (60 vials total). Make sure your doctor and pharmacist provide this for you. One drop in each eye, twice a day, is the recommended dosage. Remember to throw away each vial after usage.
